Get to know Canyon Trails Cowboy Church Sedona
Around 1930 a revival was held in the Sedona School on Brewer Rd. A man by the name of Jess Purtyman went down to the alter giving his life to the Lord. God gave him a desire to build a church. In 1931 with the help of Albert Thompson, Pastor James Sheltrown, Henry E. Cook who used his horse team to clear and grade the lot and others built the little church on the hill. The church was located in uptown Sedona today's The Shops at Pinon Pointe. In 1933 the church was recognized as an Assembly of God Church. Sedona First Assembly of God as it was known then. Some of today's members are descendants of those pioneering first members. In 1983 a new building was built on the location on Dry Creek Rd. In 2004 the church expanded with a new sanctuary and offices. Over the years we have had many pastors each with their unique gifts leading the people in the ways of the Lord. In 2010 Pastor Wayne and Jeanie Jones came and the church was renamed Canyon Trails Cowboy Church. A place for people to come no matter who they are and be welcome with old country hospitality and love of the Lord. Today we are privileged to Have Pastor Tim Donna and Nathan Morgan to lead the congregation since February of 2024.
Whether you are new to Sedona, just passing through, or have lived here all your life, we would love to have you worship the Lord with us. The presence of the Lord is what we pray for in our services, and the Lord is always with us to inhabit our worship and fill our hearts with His presence. Our purpose is to exalt the Lord in all we do, and we want to throw a big loop (or a lot of little ones!) to take as many of our friends and neighbors to heaven with us as we can. We are a cowboy church, but you will feel welcome even if you are not a cowboy! Come in your cowboy boots and blue jeans, or your Sunday best. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, you will feel the love and welcome of the congregation as well as the presence of the Lord as we meet with Him in worship.
